We Forgot About the Fire Place Actually Working
When we rented the last apartment we had, there was an indoor electric fireplace in the living room, but there was also a real wood-burning fireplace in the basement family room. We had forgotten about the one downstairs and were only using the electric one for quite a while. That is, we used it up until we got our electric bill for one month. After receiving such a huge electric bill we decided to stop using this electric one and it suddenly dawned on us we had the other one downstairs to use also. But how would we get wood to burn in the one downstairs? The landlady said that she owned a vacant lot nearby on which there were scores of trees, some being dead and thus would make great firewood. She said that we could take all we wanted for free. She even provided my husband the saw to cut up this wood. Actually she was glad that someone would take down these trees and didn’t have to pay anyone to do this. She could get her lot cleared this way and be able to sell it easier then, which was what she was trying to do for some time. And we were glad for the free wood.
